Delivery Driver/Sales Administration

Purpose of the Position

The Delivery Driver/Sales Administration role is responsible for providing support to the customers within our Duluth and Iron Range markets. They will complete assigned deliveries two to three days a week and be available to make other deliveries as needed. They will assist with coordinating customer pickups, shipping and receiving responsibilities, and provide exceptional service to our customers. They will provide office and sales support to our Sales team handling required paperwork from our Duluth location.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Drive up to 100 miles two to three days/week and deliver merchandise to customers in a timely manner
  • Perform daily pre/post trip safety inspection on truck; i.e. check turn signals, tires, etc.; DOT manifest preparation and complete paperwork
  • Load and unload delivery vehicles to include operating forklifts, carrying merchandise and stocking in appropriate areas throughout the warehouse
  • Prepare shipments to include boxing materials, labeling with appropriate shipping information and completing appropriate paperwork
  • Verify quantities of deliveries and product serial numbers by comparing merchandise to packing slips
  • Visually inspect deliveries for damage and notify management of discrepancies
  • When applicable, create order entries for customer requests and coordinate delivery schedules
  • Ensure delivery of appropriate merchandise in accordance with customer invoices and process necessary paperwork
  • Scan all products on and off truck during daily loading, unloading, and at all customer drop off/pick up sites
  • Sell welding equipment, materials and supplies to customers using technical knowledge, advising and trouble-shooting customer problems
  • Sell and assist customers with cylinder transactions and various programs
  • Return credit merchandise with appropriate paperwork and inform appropriate personnel
  • Complete dock and tailgate stops on route. Check empty cylinders and replace; have bills signed and perform sales and customer service tasks
  • Provide customer with receipt and/or credit form for merchandise to be delivered/returned
  • Work with customers to expedite or locate missing, misrouted, delayed or damaged merchandise
  • Coordinate supply needs for Duluth location to meet business needs
  • Demonstrate professionalism, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to adjust and interact with all levels of personnel
  • Maintain cleanliness of location to ensure safety of all employees, vendors and visitors

Other Responsibilities

  • Perform other job duties as assigned and fill in for other employees in their absence
  • Ride/shadow with sales representatives allowing for mentorship opportunities

Education, Experience & Skills

  • High School diploma or equivalency
  • 1-3 years of truck driving experience desired
  • Class A license with Hazardous Material Endorsements required, Tanker Endorsement preferred
  • Basic knowledge of gases, welding, and cryogenics (i.e. pressure and compatibility) preferred
  • Industry experience such as handling cylinders is desired
  • Previous customer service and sales experience is a plus
  • Must be a team player with good communication and works well with others
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook is required
  • Must be multitask oriented, organized, have high attention to detail, set priorities and meet deadlines and take pride in one’s work

Equipment Used

  • Safety gear such as steeled toe boots, safety glasses, gloves and hard hat when appropriate
  • Tractor Trailer with tailgate lift, 2 wheeler, handcarts and pallet jacks
  • Company billing and order entry software, known as TIMS
  • Various plant tools including but not limited to a scanner, ratchet straps, chains, bungee cords, etc.

Job Specifications & Requirements

Ability to sit 4 to 5 hours a day with frequent standing, walking, twisting, bending, reaching, pushing/pulling, grasping, and repetitive motions. Frequent lifting of 10-35lbs is required, may at times lift up to 75lbs. Continuously pushing/pulling 10-50lbs and frequently 50-100lbs, on occasion may push/pull over 100lbs. Must have the ability to work in moderately warm or cold conditions where high noise levels are possible. Capable of traveling 50% of your day delivering products and working extra hours as needed. Ability to “walk” cylinders daily.
