Reports To: St. Paul Operations/Project Manager 

Job Status: Non-Exempt



The service technician is responsible for completing repairs and installations in a safe and timely manner; also providing top customer service to all clients of the Company.  


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge and ability to perform technical repairs according to schedule. To work safely and cautiously in a high voltage area. 
  • Diagnose and trouble-shoot problems with appropriate equipment, while high voltages of up to 900 DC is applied to the components 
  • Communicate to customers in a clear manner the nature of service needed and cost of parts and labor 
  • Estimate repair costs and obtain authorization prior to beginning work for repairs 
  • Make repairs to welding equipment in a timely manner 
  • Recommend and explain additional repairs as appropriate 
  • Conduct proper cleaning of machines before/after repairs 
  • Repair tags including tags on all new or rental equipment 
  • Finalize repair order information to include pricing information 
  • Contact vendors via telephone to obtain repair items, components and information as needed 
  • Respond to customer inquiries and provide price information as requested 
  • Create invoices and submit requests to purchase parts according to customer needs
  • Maintain cleanliness of service department to ensure safety of all employees, vendors and visitors
  • Assist rental, inside sales, outside sales, billing, and shipping/ receiving departments


Non-Essential Functions

  • Perform other job duties as assigned and fill in for other employees in their absence


Education, Experience & Skills

  • High School diploma or equivalency preferred
  • Electronics Degree or previous electronics experience desired
  • Previous customer service experience helpful
  • Prior knowledge of high volts, amps, welding machines, etc. preferred
  • Ability to make decisions based on facts and attain precise set limits
  • High attention to detail when dealing with tight tolerances and standards
  • Effective oral and written communication skills and basic customer service experience
  • Must be organized, have good reasoning skills, math aptitude and time management skills


Equipment Used

  • Forklift, 2 wheel dollies and liquid cart 
  • Standard office equipment and computer programs such as Microsoft Software (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), Outlook and TIMS 
  • Various power and handheld tools including grinders, impact wrenches, drills, flow meters, amp clamps, engine compressor, electrical testing equipment, etc. 
  • Safety gear when appropriate; steeled toe boots, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection and welding helmet 


Job Specifications/Requirements

  • Be able to stand on your feet 4 to 5 hours a day with lots of walking, sitting, bending, and lifting/carrying; occasional twisting, reaching, pushing/pulling, grasping, climbing, and repetitive motions
  • Frequent lifting/carrying of 35lbs is required, may at times lift up to 75lbs
  • Reoccurring Pushing/pulling of 75lbs
  • Ability to work in moderately warm or cold conditions where high noise levels are possible
  • Willingness to travel to attend automation meetings or training, to visit customer site completing service calls and to pick up parts as needed
